Avoiding the euro

With the euro exchange rate falling dramatically against the pound, and despite a slight recovery in the past months, holidaymakers are looking to avoid the euro to get the best value-for-money holidays. We look at the best alternatives to holidaying in the euro zone and ask, is it really worth avoiding?

On the face of it the easy answer would be yes, even ABTA, the association of British travel agents say that "With the position of the currencies unlikely to get much better we expect people will continue to look further afield to north Africa and Turkey, which offer much better value for money and where you can still find dinner for two for £20."

Turkey does indeed offer a great holidaying experience whilst being very good value for money. Your pounds will certainally get you a lot further in Turkey whilst the country boasts some of the most beautiful natural attractions in the world – giving you the chance to experience a whole new culture.

If Turkey doesn’t appeal then why not try north Africa? Egypt is the best known of the northern African holiday destinations, however Tunisia and Morocco also offer stunning beaches and year round sunshine. Your money will also go a long way and these destinations are closer than you may think – with Tunisia only a 2 ½ hour flight away.

Avoiding the euro zone also gives you the opportunity to travel to a long haul destination. Thailand and Malaysia offer the holiday of a lifetime and in a recent study have shown to be 43% cheaper than Spanish resorts when paying for food, drinks and other essential items.

Of course you could decide that you would still like to travel to a country within the euro zone. Flights to euro zone counties remain very competitivly priced whilst many of the destinations have been favourites with British tourists for years. You can still avoid paying over the odds.

By travelling on an all-inclusive board basis all your food and drinks will be pre-paid for, this means that you will need to spend less money whilst your away and so you will be less effected by the drop in exchange rates. You can also pre book all your excursions, car hire and attraction tickets at our offices where you will pay in British pounds avoiding the low rates.

Whichever option you decide to go for Bailey’s Travel is able to offer you expert advice on how to make the most of your money and although the exchange rate on euros is currently very low, we still promise to offer you the best rate on the highstreet.
